There is an uprooted cottonwood tree on the north side of the middle inlet that made a terrific picture frame.

These willow leaves in Spring Creek look like liquid gold.

Lynn reports, "After a damp, chilly Saturday morning Mark, Cody and I decided to try Snowbasin to see if there were any colors left. About noon the clouds started to break up and to my pleasant surprise the combination of snow, blue sky and fall colors gave me this landscape. It was taken just down the road from the lower parking lot."

An Evening Hike with the Colors

We are used to hiking in the morning hours but as fall arrives the evening temperatures are so pleasant it makes sense to get out in the evenings. We started hiking the lower trail from the Green Pond trail head on the Snowbasin connecting road at about 5:15 p.m. There were a few folks at the start of the trial, but after the first 500 feet we were by ourselves the rest of the hike. The maples were in fine form! Get out and live.

Snowbasin Colors are Coming on Strong!

We had great weather for this evening Fall Color Photography session at Snowbasin Resort. Jim Halay of the Ogden Camera Club served as a great resource for participants, as wells as Lynn Talylor, Cody Taylor and Paul Dennison. Thank you, Gentlemen!! Snowbasin is a great location right now - head up there in mornings for a rainbow of color near the lodge and on hikes up the mountain.

On Friday, September 23 at 9:02 Mountain time autumn will arrive in the Ogden Valley! Drove over Trappers Loop yesterday and the maples were starting to burn with fall color. They went from green to brilliant red in just a few days so don't delay your fall color get-a-way! It's time to get out and enjoy 360 degrees of natural adventure.

The Xterra National Championships take place this weekend - swim in Ogden Valley's favorite water, Pineview; bike up Wheeler and Sardine Canyon trails to Snowbasin; and then a trail run up and around Snowbasin. It will be the first off road triathlon for Lance Armstrong since his retirement from road cycling. Athletes will be here from around the world. Snowbasin will have two bbq's and the gondola running so come on out and enjoy all the Ogden Valley has to offer.

Take a drive through Ogden Canyon ( between Ogden City and Eden) and look up - you will see some smatterings of red appearing. This is the precursor to color in Ogden Valley (Eden and Huntsville area). Overall, the color change is about two weeks behind - this is usually the peak weekend. Stay tuned for more color updates! Ogden Valley is the site for our 2011 Northern Utah Fall Color Photography Workshops! The Ogden Valley Business Association and the Ogden Camera Club are teaming up once again, with sessions for all levels of photography buffs. Expert mentors from the Ogden Camera Club will lead. Attendees will have a chance to win $50.00 cash and an 11 x 14 Canvas Gallery Wrap from The Imaging Depot in Ogden, UT, for their best photograph.

Set at “inflation buster” pricing, one session is $10.00, while both sessions are just $17.00. There is a package with two meals priced at $36.00. Fall Colors Workshop - Day 3

Wow, what a great location to go to for the final day of the workshops! Powder Mountain was in full color, and it was great to go there. I don't think many people get to see certain parts of Ogden Valley, like Powder Mountain or Snowbasin, during seasons other than winter. So thanks again to those who organized the workshops!

I was only able to stay for half of the workshop, so my images were all taken on the West slope. I ventured off the path a bit, and I'm sure glad I did because I found the perfect canopy of aspens above me, which you can see in the first image.

Fun Around Ogden Valley

Wow! What a glorious morning on Powder Mountain! I wish I was fast enough to catch the moose on the way up but my camera was in the back of the car. Congratulations to those who were ready for the shot. The aspens are in full color and are magnificent to see.

This really shows the quaking aspen leaves up close and moving. It was fun trying new ideas - thanks Ogden Camera Club mentors for teaching us new (at least to us) techniques.

Powder Mountain is full of natural beauty and we hated to leave.

After our morning up Powder Mountain, several of us took a little hike on Wheeler Creek Trail. The trail starts out on an old road turned rocky ground but even I could make it up part way and Im glad I did. What a beautiful place!

The morning sun reflects here with the already fallen leaves.

Red slopes help make the Fall a picturesque vacation spot in the Ogden Valley.

This little albino cricket is quite camoflaged on the red fall leaf. There are lots of critters to see in the Ogden Valley during this cool fall season.

My camera is not working otherwise I would love to share the brilliance of the the colors at Powder Mountain today. Groves of yellow aspens are surrounded by pines making a dramatic contrast. Add to this that the maples are also at the peak of their color.

Another great day at the fall colors workshop! Unfortunately the cars I was following on the way there took a wrong turn and we got a bit lost, unable to find the main group. But we still managed to get out, explore a bit, and get some great images. We were very lucky to find some still water, which allowed us to get some great reflection shots. The two images below are not flipped upside down! They're just images of the reflections themselves.

What a wonderful day! I love nature! This workshop has brought me to the Eden, Utah area for the first time. I have now somewhat experienced Snowbasin and North Fork. They are very pretty and peaceful. Thank you again for providing this opportunity!

I just loved the contrast of colors in the following shot.

I took this one before we ever left Eden, UT. The grasshoppers were everywhere, if you looked for them. They must have still been cold because they were just hanging out on this vegetation.

This was my very first time trying to get a motion blur shot. I knew you were suppose to set a camera for a longer shutter speed, but I did not realize everything else that had to happen at the same time.

I did not plan this motion blur shot, but as people were graciously helping me figure out my camera, Pam moved in for a shot. I did not mind in the least. I just hope she did not mind me taking her picture.

OK, these berries were about 30-40 feet away from me, up in the air, but I loved how the light hit them and the yellow leaves even farther behind the berries. I took more pictures of this shot than any other. That is because it took me that long to figure out how to set my camera so that it was not too dark or blurry.

I want to thank the Ogden Valley Business Association for arranging these workshops, and I want to thank members of the Ogden Camera Club for their tour of some great Ogden Valley sites for fall colors. It was worth it getting up early on a Saturday morning to see the great light and enjoy the company of fellow photographers. Here are a few of the images that I captured. Still a lot to review and edit, but these jumped out at me. Thanks again.

Hot Air Balloons Add to the Fall Color

There is always a sense of happiness when I return to Ogden Valley from a trip. I can't help breaking into a smile just as soon as I see Pineview. I may be biased but there just aren't many places with the spirit and beauty of OV.

I must say, however, that I was surprised and a bit pleased that the fall colors have not hit their peak yet. Every Saturday morning, I go out to my deck to see if the hot air ballons are flying. The sun today bounced off the blue & red envelope of the solo balloon and enhanced the view of the emerging fall colors. I think a hot air balloon ride might be the perfect way to enjoy a fall color sunrise.

In Nordic Valley, there are patches of red from the maples but the scrub oaks are holding onto their green hues. My bet is that the peak may be next weekend.

These photos were taken on the patio at Earl's Lodge at Snow Basin. I've never seen a spider like this one and I didn't notice his "lunch" until I got home and put the pictures into the computer. The butterfly was garnering a lot of attention and I thought some of you might like to see one of the pictures I got. The bee was just happily on his way to the next flower.

Fall Colors Workshop - Day One

Well, this was my first experience ever with "amateur" photographers. I do not yet own an SLR camera but I am this close (see my fingers almost touching). I have studied cameras and photography, yet I know I have much more to learn. This wonderful opportunity to get together with other interested and knowledgeable people was great. Thank you Ogden Camera Club for helping! Here are some of my favorite shots of the morning.

Ogden Valley and the Snow Basin Ski Resort

What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday morning! The colors were just starting to pop in the Valley and Snow Basin. The next couple of weeks will be a beautiful array of colors that I can't wait to see - and try to capture with my camera. My pictures don't do the mountains justice but I'm learning from some great men and women - thanks for all the help OVBA and Ogden Photography club!
Even pesky wasps around the deck at home became something to marvel at here!

Driving back from SB were able to look out over the Valley and Pineview Reservoir. It looked so peaceful from the top and you could see the boats on the lake having a great time even from a distance.

And driving further into the Valley we found a great fall getaway just minutes from the reservoir complete with a small lake, mountain views, a bridge, and fall color. I wonder where we'll end up this Saturday. Saturday morning is turning into my favorite time of the week!
