Northern Utah Autumn Foliage is Winding Down

This will be our last Fall Alert for the season (get ready for SNOW).  Although many leaves have fallen at higher elevations, there is still some nice color in Ogden Canyon and on the Valley floor. Enjoy the final days of autumn!

Reds are coming on!

The red colors in the Valley are finally coming on!  Still in patchwork fashion, but pretty nonetheless!  We took a hike on the Skyline Trail from Pineview Reservoir on Friday. Glorious!

Follow Powder Mountain and Snowbasin on Instagram or Facebook for color changes at the higher elevations.  On weekends, ride the gondola at Snowbasin to get up high fast!

Scenic Drive 1:  Ogden Canyon (Monte Cristo) (Utah State Route 39).
Along this drive, you will see a few beautiful waterfalls. To get up Ogden Canyon, in Ogden take 12th Street and head Eastbound towards the mountains. It will take you right up the Canyon. You will reach Pineview Reservoir, Eden, and also a Monastary with gift shop east of Huntsville. From here you can head to Logan.

Scenic Drive 2:  Trapper's Loop.
This scenic backway runs between Huntsville and Mountain Green along the eastern side of the Wasatch range. Like the Ogden River Scenic Byway, this route is also wonderful as the leaves change colors. This scenic routes can be combined with others on the map into a partial loop by traveling I-84 through the Weber Canyon, which is itself a very attractive route.

HOTLINE
The U.S Forest Service has set up an automated foliage hotline to help you decide where to go for a drive or photography. The number is 1-800-354-4595 (although as of today they are still reporting 2013 - we hope that gets updated soon!).  Visit www.fs.fed.us/fallcolors/2014 (for whole country), or jump to Unita-Wasatch-Cache National Forest Web Site and watch the short video.
